Fencing - Part III

FENCING: BLOG

FENCING UPDATES / IMPACTS

SPRING 2021

The most obvious changes over time have been with the vegetation. As a very specific example the mariposa lilies and the yellow bells (as well as the serviceberries, by the way) have seen significant improvements - even in light of the drought conditions the last two years.

AUGUST 2019 - post completion

As planned, the visual impact is quite low. Most of present visual impact is due to the mowing for fire protection rather than the fence itself.

As far as impact on the wildlife:

The deer have flowed around the fence, with (largely) zero interest displayed in getting over or through the fence.

The songbirds love it. They perch on it, hang out it in rows, and even fly through it in zig-zags (slalom style) in some sort of insane courting ritual.

The raptors and owls appear to have decided the 4" posts were really intended for them to perch on while resting from hunting.

The quail mostly ignore it, flowing back and forth through it as if it weren't there.

The grouse have struggled a bit (we lost one grouse to a fence collision on the 2nd day).
